animals in captivity
in today's world what is better captive life in a zoo or possible extinction. yes keeping animals captive in zoos may not be the right thing to do morally. but letting a population of wild animals go extinct is not right either. for some species, zoos maybe the last standing ground for animals that are seeing there habitats destroyed by man. so i guess you have to take the lesser of two evils

yet we continually worsen the condition by expanding our "settled" areas. We have created this problem as surely as we create the sprawl ever expanding from the center of our cities. Box stores over Farms. Farms over natural habitat.
Yet even if zoos are necessitated by our plundering of nature, Acampora is right to say that we need to rethink the very nature of zoos.
I do believe that the lesser of two evils is the path to take, but perhaps the combination of the use of animal orphanages and a reduction in our expansion would suffice. If we could nurse these populations back to health and then release them into a safe environment, then I believe we have undone some of our moral wrongs.
