torture and the ticking bomb
why did we look at the ticking bomb scenario when the likely hood of this type of event happening is slim to none. how can this be applied to real life events. i know that this is used to justify if torture would be justified in this circumstance. but you really can't take this and then say torture is o.k. if you have an instance like the ticking bomb. or is this used to help justify torture. because it can be said that the reason we need to use torture tactics is for the safety of our people. and the needs of the many out way the needs of the one. and the one in this case would be the victim. i feel that this scenario has done nothing but to sway the minds of people into thinking that torture is o.k.

Like we mentioned in class, this example is an extreme and very rare and then we compared it to the life raft scenario where you are trapped with your dog on a life raft with slim chance of making it to shore and the question is should you eat your dog. From here it was sarcastically remarked that this could be used as a defense for justifying eating animals. Thus, like the above example this ticking bomb scenario is used as an extreme example and does not reflect any real justification for torture.
