media
if media plays a role in democracy then what is it? is the role of media to sway the public towards the interest of multi national corporations, government, or any other organization with money? i though that media's role was to inform the people. was media established at first to be that third eye. telling the people what they always thought they new on issues but had no proof. now media is all comericalized just like all other things in life.

Everyone is biased, but once again the large corporations have not only managed to decimate the little man, but effectively control the news output to be in their best interests. I'm particularly biased agaist big corporations, although the American way of life revolves around them. Its frightening that so many aspects of our lives are controled by individuals who have private jet planes and bring in more money in a year that we'll probably see in a lifetime. disguesting...
I do agree that it is disgusting that most of the owners of media outlets have more money than most of us will see in a lifetime but that is another isssue too deep to get into right now. However, I also agree that everyone is biased and that it is very hard to remain objective, but the media should attempt to keep objectivity and have multiple checks to keep this. Also part of the solution should be freedom given to journalists so as to free them from the bonds of corporate figureheads.
Especially important, in my view, is the effort to distinquish objectivity from mere "balance" ("he said and, on the other side, she said," regardless of the greater importance of what he or she said); and to ground the search for objectivity in truth-telling.
